Box Score Through the first four games of the season, the Lancaster Bible women's basketball team had played very few stretches of poor basketball. Any stretch that did occur, the Chargers combatted their poor play by getting to the free throw line and amping up on the defensive end.
Unfortunately on Thursday night, they did neither of those things and it cost them. Penn St. Harrisburg used a 25-3 run over a nine minute period early in the second half to turn a 10-point deficit into a 12-point lead. Mikhail Whitcomb's layup with 9:53 remaining gave the Nittany Lions a 49-37 lead and it appeared the Chargers were simply going to go away quietly.
LBC spent the next eight minutes inching its way back into the game and
Aubrey Folger's layup with 1:10 to play cut the deficit to just two points, 57-55. After the teams traded free throws and a bucket, the Chargers fouled Miranda Zeanchock with 11 seconds to play. Zeanchock missed both free throws, giving the Chargers a chance to tie or win the game, but
Brooklyn Wilson's shot would not go with three seconds to play and LBC lost, 60-58.
Senior
Lauren Heliger led the Chargers with 15 points and added six rebounds, five steals and four assists. Freshman
Aubrey Folger had 13 points, seven boards and five steals, while Wilson and
Emily Lloyd added 11 points each.
The Chargers (4-1, 1-1 NEAC) will look to rebound from their first loss, on Saturday when they host Gallaudet at 1 p.m.
