Box Score With a third of their schedule now in the books, the Lancaster Bible men's basketball team basically knows the things they need to work on to become successful. One of those things reared its ugly head in a big way on Saturday against Gallaudet as the Chargers could not get a defensive stop almost the entire game and lost to the Bison, 71-60. The loss drops the Chargers to 0-8 overall and 0-2 in NEAC play.
LBC kept the game close for 40 minutes, and even had a 30-27 halftime lead, but in the second half when it needed a stop, the defense simply couldn't get one.
"Our inability to get stops without fouling is hurting us," Chargers' Head Coach
Marshall Tague said. "If you look at the stats of a lot of our games, everything is basically the same, except for free throws. We had seven free throw attempts today and Gallaudet had 29. We just aren't going to win if those numbers stay the same."
Tague said that while the losing is frustrating now, the team has to learn these ideas and lessons so that they can apply them later.
"We have to learn to play physical and not foul," Tague said. "But we have to be in these situations to learn what to do."
Senior
Keith Keltner led the Chargers with 15 points and seven rebounds, while fellow senior
Dan Karl had 13 points.
Corey Leonard and
Caleb Graves each added seven points as well for LBC who played hard for a full 40 minutes according to Tague.
"We competed for 40 minutes and played hard," Tague said. "Gallaudet made some big shots and the best player on the floor [Gallaudet's Layton Seeber] was the difference."
Seeber finished with 27 points and six assists for the Bison who improved to 4-5 overall and 1-1 in NEAC play.
In addition to playing hard, Tague was also pleased with the squad's ability to limit turnovers.
"Having only 10 turnovers is great for us," Tague said. "As well as having 14 assists on 24 made buckets."
The Chargers have just one game left before Christmas Break as they travel to Cresson, Pa. on Saturday afternoon to take on Mount Aloysius at 2 p.m.
