Chargers Win Spring Season Opener

Let's hope they all go this well for first-year head coach Ethan McNaughton.

McNaughton and the Lancaster Bible College women's tennis team opened their spring season on Thursday with an 8-1 drubbing of Trinity Washington at Linden Hall School in Lititz, Pa. where the Chargers play their home matches.

The Chargers swept all three doubles matches to get things started and won five of the six singles matches to earn the victory. The teams of Bri Funk/Kayla Scott, Carmin Nachtigal/Kacie Scott and Erin Buckwalter/Shyanne Smith won, 8-4, 8-2 and 8-3 respectively in doubles.

Both Scott sisters, Buckwalter and Nachtigal also won their singles matches. Senior Michelle Ringler won her #2 singles match, 6-1, 6-0 to round out the Chargers' scoring during singles.

"Many of the ladies were nervous prior to the match, but very happy afterwards," McNaughton said. "For a lot of them it was their first collegiate tennis match and for them to get a win is great."

Because of the move from fall to spring and the fact that LBC didn't win during the fall 2011 season, the is the first team win for the Chargers since October 18, 2010 when they defeated Baptist Bible, 5-4.

LBC is back in action on Saturday when they open up NEAC play against Penn St. Harrisburg at 12 p.m.
