After battling back from a 5-1 deficit to tie the game at 5-5 in the top of the third, the Lancaster Bible College baseball team felt good and were in the game. Then Albright came to bat in the bottom half of the third inning and after six runs, three hits and chasing LBC starter,
Frank DiFilippo, they led 11-5 and never looked back as they downed the Chargers, 20-7.
Despite the loss, there were many positives for the Chargers (0-2). As was the case in their opening day loss to Eastern, the Chargers did put runs on the board and on Wednesday, scored three of their seven runs thanks to the long ball. DiFilippo and
Kody Godsey each went yard for LBC.
"We did a good job at the plate and the two home runs were nice," Chargers' Skipper Doug Yager said. "I don't know if Godsey's shot has landed yet."
Another positive was the hitting of
Peter Shue and Tim Landis, Jr. Shue was 2-for-3 and drove in a team-high three runs, while Landis was 2-for-4 with a run scored. Landis has four hits this season, which is one more than he had in his first two seasons with LBC.
"Landis continues to impress," Yager said. "He is playing really well and hitting the ball great."
Though LBC's offense continues to be effective, the Chargers have made too many mistakes in the field and been too inconsistent on the mound during the first two games of the season.
"Our youth and inexperience has shown and we simply have to get better," Yager said. "These are growing pains and we just have to get through them."
The Chargers have no time to rest as they host Dickinson on Thursday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. The Chargers are 0-4 all-time against the Red Devils.
Notes:
-DiFilippo hit three home runs last season and five his freshman season.
-Godsey is the first LBC player, other than DiFilippo, to homer since Caleb Erb went yard on April 24, 2010 in a 9-7 victory over Mount Aloysius. DiFilippo hit all three of the team's home runs in 2011.
