Dickinson Powers Past Chargers

Maybe a trip down South will be exactly what the Lancaster Bible College baseball team needs, because above the Mason-Dixon Line, it's not going very well thus far for the Chargers.

LBC dropped its third straight game on Thursday, losing to Dickinson, 25-4 in five innings. The Red Devils scored at least four runs in every inning and the 25 runs allowed by LBC is the most since Penn St. Berks scored 25 on April 4, 2009. Garrett Horan led Dickinson, going 6-for-6, scoring five runs and knocking in three. Zee Crawford hit a grand slam and Jordan Kaufman was 3-for-3 with five runs batted in and four runs scored.

For the Chargers (0-3), Frank DiFilippo provided all of the offense with two two-run home runs.

"Frank hit the ball hard today and I think the offense is doing OK for this early in the season, but we still have a lot of work to do with the pitching," Chargers' Skipper Doug Yager said. "I thought the defense was better today, but guys are still getting comfortable and there will be hiccups every-so-often."

Paul Greco, Peter Shue and Micah McClay also had hits for LBC, but it was not enough to match the offensive firepower of the Red Devils.

"I think Shue is good hitter who is only going to get better and our biggest thing is to make sure we limit our mistakes both at the plate and in the field," Yager said. "We have learned a lot about our team in the past three games and it has been good to get lots of guys in and prepare them for the season ahead."

The team will head to Georgia on Saturday and will face Toccoa Falls College on Monday and Emmanuel on Wednesday before heading to Knoxville, Tenn. to battle Johnson University.

"The pitching and defense will have to improve on our trip," Yager said. "The teams we are playing are good teams and we will need to be ready."

The Chargers have faced Toccoa Falls just once in team history and defeated them to open the 1996 season. LBC has never played Emmanuel and holds a 3-1 record against Johnson University, which was previously named Johnson Bible College. The Chargers defeated Johnson twice last season in Knoxville, winning 8-3 and 8-5.

Notes:
-DiFilippo's three home runs this season match his total from last season.

-Dickinson is now 5-0 all-time against LBC.

-The Chargers started 0-7 in 2010 before finishing with a 17-18 record and began last season 0-5 and finished 11-15.

-LBC will travel close to 1,700 miles over the course of the next week, playing six games and visiting Turner Field in Atlanta, Ga.
