Chargers Earn First NEAC Win in Split with Penn St. Harrisburg

In the midst of a stretch that sees the Lancaster Bible College baseball team play 8 of 10 games at Charger Field, LBC would like to gain as much momentum as they can for a possible post-season run in the NCCAA and NEAC playoffs. Tuesday's doubleheader split with Penn St. Harrisburg could be just the boost the Chargers were looking for.

After blowing an early 3-1 lead in a 15-4 game one loss, the Chargers bounced back with an 11-7 victory in game two. Game two's win was also LBC's first-ever NEAC victory after beginning the season 0-3.

The Chargers looked to be in control in game one after Kody Godsey's three-run home run in the bottom of the third made it 3-1, but the Nittany Lions exploded for 14 runs over the final four innings to secure the opening game. Harrisburg's Cody Henry was 3-for-6 with 6 RBI's to lead the Nittany Lions, while Godsey was 2-for-4 with 3 RBI's for the Chargers. Godsey, Paul Greco and Frank DiFilippo each had two hits for LBC in game one.

In game two, the Chargers looked to be going down quietly in the bottom of the first, but after several walks and wild pitches, the Chargers tacked up a five spot on just one hit in the opening frame. Much like game one however, the Nittany Lions would not go away and cut the deficit to just one after a four-run top of the third.

Unlike game one though, LBC responded with a large inning of their own. DiFilippo's three-run home run with two outs in the bottom half of the third inning gave LBC an 11-5 lead which they would not relinquish. Once again, Greco and DiFilippo had two hits each, while Richard Westerlund was 1-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI. Peter Shue and Drew Tilley also scored two runs apiece for LBC (3-13, 1-3 NEAC).

Freshman Jake Ritchey had his second consecutive solid outing as he went the distance for his first collegiate complete game. Ritchey allowed six earned runs on eight hits, while walking three and striking out two.

LBC will host Gallaudet on Thursday to try and bring their NEAC record back to the .500 mark. The doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

Notes:
-Greco has 25 hits in 17 games this season, while DiFilippo has 17 in just 11 games played this season.

-LBC has hit nine home runs this season after hitting just three all of last year.
