Chargers Drop Two to End Regular Season

The Lancaster Bible College baseball team wrapped up its regular season on Monday by dropping a pair of games to Mount Aloysius. The Mounties made late inning comebacks in each game and improved to 9-1 all-time against the Chargers. Mount Aloysius won game one, 11-10 and game two, 3-2.

In game one, the Mounties scored three runs in the top half of the seventh inning to erase a two-run deficit. Jacob Stumpf's two-run home run with one out in the seventh gave the Mounties the lead and Stephen Hickey came in to earn his second save of the season.

Drew Tilley led the way for LBC with a 2-for-3 day that saw him drive in three runs and score once. LBC starter struck out six in three innings, but walked five and got little help from a defense that committed five errors. Richard Westerlund, Paul Greco and Kody Godsey each had a hit and an RBI for the Chargers.

In game two, Chargers starter Micah McClay was the hard luck loser as he scattered nine hits over seven innings, while striking out two and walking just one. The LBC offense, which rested many of its starters, mustered just three hits and struck out seven times. Jake Ritchey, Matthew Day and Ryan Shannon had the hits for LBC, while Greco saw his program-record 23-game hitting streak come to an end. (Greco was on deck when the game ended.)

LBC finishes the regular season with a record of 11-23. They will represent the NCCAA East Region at the NCCAA National Tournament in Mason, Ohio next week. The Chargers earned the eighth seed and will face top-seeded Toccoa Falls in their opening game.

Notes:
Greco has 50 hits this season and needs two at the NCCAA National Tournament to set a new team record...LBC went 1-2 the last time it was at Nationals in 2010...The Chargers played Toccoa Falls earlier this season and lost 7-4 and 16-2...LBC finished 7-11 at home this season.
