Gophers Shutout Chargers, 2-0

Box Score A tradition is beginning to form for the Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team and it isn't that great of a tradition. The Chargers lost their season opening game for the eighth straight season and fell to 1-9-1 overall in season openers.

This season, it was Goucher who helped LBC carry on its "tradition," as the Gophers defeated the Chargers, 2-0. Dani Meir-Levi scored with 17:59 remaining to put the Gophers ahead 1-0 and Sherlanda Buskey capped the scoring 11 minutes later to put the game out of reach.

"I think fatigue set in during the second half," LBC Head Coach Ken Craul said. "Goucher moved the ball well and we need to get quicker on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball to stay with a team like that."

Whitney Heise led LBC with four shots, while Monica Horning had three shots. Chargers' goalkeeper Emily Lloyd made eight saves for LBC, who despite losing, showed promise in its first game.

"Overall, it was not a bad game for our first game of the year," Craul said. "Several of our first year players had very good games."

LBC will look to rebound on Tuesday when they host Alvernia at 4 p.m.

Notes:
-LBC lost its first game last season and then won its next 18 games.

-The only year LBC won its season opener was 2004.

-The Chargers are now 2-4 all-time against Goucher.
