Chargers Drop First-Ever NEAC Game

Box Score It was bound to end sometime and on Tuesday, the Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team's perfect regular season NEAC record finally got a blemish.

The Chargers, who were a perfect, 11-0 last season and 2-0 this season, lost to Penn St. Berks, 2-1 in Reading, Pa. Tuesday afternoon.

The Nittany Lions' Chelsea Ray scored with 18:38 remaining to give Penn St. Berks a lead it would not relinquish. Evelyn Stauffer scored the lone Chargers' goal, give her goals in back-to-back games. Whitney Heise earned her second assist of the season on Stauffer's goal.

LBC Head Coach Ken Craul was upset with his team's lack of attention to the small things throughout the game.

"We are still not correcting some simple mistakes that we talk about at halftime," Craul said. "We need to take the instruction that is communicated and apply it on the field."

Craul added that instead of more scoring opportunities for the Chargers, the opposition is in fact getting more chances in the second half.

"A lot of the needed adjustments are resulting in lost possessions and good scoring opportunities for our opponents," Craul said.

The Chargers (2-3) will have just one day of practice to correct their mistakes as they head to Clarks Summit, Pa. on Thursday to take on NCCAA East Region rival Baptist Bible. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.

The last time the two teams met was Oct. 29, 2011 in the NCCAA East Region Final. The teams played the first half in a driving snowstorm before the game was postponed. LBC led 3-0 at halftime and was awarded the East Region Title. The Chargers also won last season's regular season matchup as well as they defeated the Defenders, 2-0.
