Box Score Because of Tuesday's postponed game at Penn St. Abington, the Lancaster Bible College women's soccer team has had a week off since they defeated Baptist Bible, 2-1 last Thursday in Clarks Summit, Pa. Playing on home turf for the first time in almost two weeks, the Chargers showed little rust in their dominant, 4-0 victory over Cairn University on Thursday afternoon.
Chargers' freshman
Bethany Stein had two goals in the first half to give LBC a 3-0 halftime lead.
Monica Horning tacked on one more goal midway through the second half to ice the game for LBC.
"We had consistent touches on the ball all game," LBC Head Coach
Ken Craul said. "I thought our ball movement was very good as well."
Chargers' senior Kathyrn Ritter scored the second goal of the game for LBC on a great cross by Horning. The assist was Horning's third of the season, giving her the team lead.
"Today was a great team effort," Craul said. "There isn't much more to say except that. Everyone played well and we got great contributions from everyone on the field."
LBC (4-3) outshot the Highlanders, 25-3 and held a 13-1 edge in corner kicks. Highlanders' goalkeeper, Sara Poole made 11 saves in the loss.
The Chargers are off until Tuesday when they complete the NCCAA East Region portion of their schedule in Phoenixville, Pa. against Valley Forge Christian. Should LBC win, they will clinch the top seed in the East Region playoffs and an automatic bid in the East Region Final because Cairn is not participating in this year's East Region playoffs.
The East Region Championship is scheduled for Saturday, October 27.
Tuesday's game against the Patriots is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
Notes:
-Cairn has yet to score a goal this season in five games.
-With 23 minutes remaining in the second half, LBC goalkeeper
Emily Lloyd was replaced by freshman
Cheyenne Benson. It marked the first game since October 27, 2009 that Lloyd wasn't between the pipes for the Chargers. Lloyd has started 51 straight games and up until today, had played every minute of those 51 games.
