Box Score Plus eight in rebounds, fewer turnovers, more steals and 20 more shots taken. Those are generally statistics of a winning basketball team. While those were the stats for the Lancaster Bible men's basketball team on Wednesday night at Penn St. Abington, it did not result in a victory as the Nittany Lions shot 55% from the floor and defeated the Chargers, 78-66.
Abington's best player, Mike Marvin led all scorers with 22 points, on 10-of-13 shooting, and added seven rebounds. Avery Barnes added nine points, eight rebounds and eight blocks for the Nittany Lions who improved to 6-12 overall and 4-3 in NEAC play.
The Chargers meanwhile were led by sophomore
Corey Leonard who had 15 points.
Jon Bird, also a sophomore, added 10 points and 10 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.
"Corey bounced back and played well for us tonight," Chargers' Head Coach
Marshall Tague said. "It was a tough loss. We couldn't get a stop when we needed to and they took advantage."
LBC (2-15, 2-7 NEAC) has been working on getting more shots during each game and though they finally did, Tague said some of them have to go in for the team to be successful.
"We outshot them by 20, but could not put the ball in the hoop," Tague said. "We need to make a play if we are going to get opportunities."
After five straight road games, the Chargers will return to Horst Athletic Center on Saturday when they host Penn St. Berks at 3 p.m. Berks, which won both meetings last season, is in first place at 6-2 in the NEAC South Division.
