Chargers Get Back to Winning Ways

Box Score The Lancaster Bible women's basketball team returned to normalcy on Wednesday night, defeating Penn St. Abington, 68-51 by controlling the boards, playing great team defense and letting its top two scorers do what they do best.

Freshman Aubrey Folger had 24 points and nine rebounds, while senior Lauren Heliger added 21 points, eight rebounds and six assists for the Chargers who improved to 13-3 overall and 9-2 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play.
Folger had 14 points and six rebounds in the first half, while Heliger had 16 of her 21 points in the second half.

"Aubrey did a phenomenal job on the offensive end for us tonight," LBC Head Coach Doug Helsel said. "Lauren continued her excellent play and had a great second half."

Heliger has scored 20 or more points in four straight games, averaging 21.5 points per game. LBC is 3-1 in those games and Heliger's ability to score has opened up chances for other players, namely Brooklyn Wilson and Sarah Heilenman.

Helsel said he was pleased with the team's defense, especially after giving up a season-high 88 points on Monday at SUNYIT.

"We are focused on getting our defense shored up and I think we are moving in that direction," Helsel said. "Playing three games in four days is tough, but I think we handled it well and we met all of the goals that we set for ourselves before the game."

The Chargers shot 41.2% from the floor for the game and held Abington (7-9, 5-4 NEAC), which was a 30% 3-point shooting team coming into the game, to just 2-of-19 (10.5%) from beyond the arc.

LBC is back in action on Saturday when they host Penn St. Berks at 1 p.m. The Chargers split two regular season games with Berks last season, with each winning on its home floor.
