Box Score Following the trend that won't seem to go away, the Lancaster Bible men's basketball team lost another close game on Monday night, falling to Elizabethtown, 61-57. It marked the seventh time this season the Chargers have lost by 10 points or less.
After taking the lead with 4:47 to play in the first half, the Chargers held the lead until the 3:47 mark in the second half, when E-town's Andrew Mantz tied the game, 53-53 with a jumper. After
CJ Dunston hit one of two free throws with 3:31 to play to give LBC a one-point lead, the Blue Jays knocked down a three-pointer and a layup on back-to-back possessions to open up a 58-54 lead with 2:35 to play.
Though LBC couldn't hit many shots of their own, the Blue Jays went cold from the free throw line, which kept the Chargers alive. After a layup by
Luke Roundy, the Chargers trailed, 59-57 with 23 seconds remaining. Another missed free throw gave LBC a chance to tie or take the lead, but
Dan Karl's layup with two seconds remaining wouldn't go down and E-town iced the game with two free throws.
"It was our season in a nutshell," LBC Head Coach
Marshall Tague said. "We had a chance to win and we just didn't make as many plays as the other team. I thought our effort was great, especially on the defense end."
Dan Karl led LBC with 16 points on 7-of-14 shooting, while
Dondre Perry had 13 points.
Corey Leonard played another strong game, grabbing 10 rebounds while adding four points and three blocks as well.
"Dondre and Corey have been playing well lately and have been really consistent which is huge for both of them," Tague said.
E-town's Joe Schwalm had 18 points to lead the Blue Jays, while Will Schlosser added 17 points.
The Chargers (2-17, 2-8 NEAC) will look to snap their four-game losing streak on Wednesday when they host Penn St. Harrisburg at 8 p.m.
