Box Score Penn St. Harrisburg completed the season sweep of Lancaster Bible on Wednesday night, defeating the Chargers, 75-63 at Horst Athletic Center behind 20 points from Alberto De los Santos.
The Chargers trailed by just three, 36-33, at halftime after ending the half on a 9-2 run. Two impressive dunks by freshman
CJ Dunston had the LBC crowd in the game and the Chargers shot 62 percent from the floor.
Penn St. Harrisburg, to its credit, did not panic and amped up its defense and turned the game around early in the second half. A 19-3 run midway through the second half turned a tie game, 40-40, into a big Nittany Lion lead as Harrisburg turned up the defensive pressure and hit big shots both inside and outside the three-point arc.
"Their defense caused us a lot of problems in the second half," Chargers' Head Coach
Marshall Tague said. "We ended up rushing shots and committing too many turnovers."
LBC (2-18, 2-9 NEAC) turned the ball over 19 times and the Nittany Lions made them pay, scoring 15 points off those turnovers. When the Chargers did try and make a run late in the second half, Harrisburg would answer right back time and time again.
"Give them credit, when they needed a big shot, they got it," Tague said. "They hit back-to-back three pointers that really hurt us."
Despite the loss, it wasn't all bad news. They held a huge advantage in rebounds, 33-21 and shot the ball well from the field.
"I was glad to see we hit the glass and outrebounded them," Tague said. "And though I think we need to take more shots, I thought we shot the ball well."
Corey Leonard led the Chargers in scoring for the third time in four games as he poured in 14 points and added four rebounds.
Dondre Perry,
CJ Dunston and
Jon Bird all had 11 points for the Chargers as well.
In addition to De los Santos, the Nittany Lions (9-11, 6-3 NEAC) had three other players in double figures. Kevin Icker (12 points), Thristan Lundy (11 points) and Joseph Farthing (10 points) were all key in the second half for Harrisburg.
LBC returns to the floor on Saturday when they host SUNY Cobleskill at 3 p.m.
