Chargers Blank Patriots

Box Score The Lancaster Bible women's soccer team opened up its four-game week with a win on Tuesday as they controlled play for 90 minutes en route to a 8-0 victory over Valley Forge Christian. In an odd scheduling snafu, the Chargers will turn around and once again host Valley Forge Christian on Thursday in the NCCAA East Region Semifinals as the East Region playoffs get underway. (Cairn will host Baptist Bible in the other East Region semifinal.)

On Tuesday, the Chargers (11-6) dominated play for all 90 minutes as they kept possession in the Patriots' end of the field for almost the entire game. Freshman Alyssa Wesner recorded her second hat trick of the season to lead the Chargers, while junior Monica Horning added two goals. Bethany Stein, Evelyn Stauffer and Kirsten Webster also scored for the Chargers who shutout the Patriots for the sixth straight time.

Sarah Heilenman added two assists for LBC, while Danielle Good recorded her first collegiate point when she assisted on Stauffer's goal in the first half.

After Wesner scored to make it 2-0, Stein scored 12 seconds later to make it 3-0 as those became the two fastest goals scored in LBC women's soccer history. The Chargers scored six goals in the first half en route to scoring seven or more goals on the Patriots for the third straight meeting.

Goalkeepers Kaitlyn Scheuing and Danielle Good combined for LBC's ninth shutout this season. For the game, the Chargers outshot the Patriots, 26-0 and held a 6-0 edge in corner kicks.

Thursday's NCCAA East Region Semifinal will begin at 1 p.m. followed by the men's semifinal at 3:30 p.m.
