Box Score 4 The Lancaster Bible baseball team concluded its spring break trip on Thursday with a doubleheader split against Johnson in Knoxville, Tenn. The Chargers took game one, 8-3 before falling in game two, 16-15. On Wednesday, LBC also split a doubleheader, this time with Hiwassee in Madisonville, Tenn. The Chargers dropped game one, 9-2, but rebounded with their first win of the season in game two with a 9-5 victory.
Thursday appeared to be going LBC's way, but Johnson's late rally in game two spoiled LBC's chances of a sweep and left the coaches and players alike very frustrated as the team made costly errors to aid the Johnson comeback.
One of the positives of the trip has been the awakening of the Chargers' bats. LBC had struggled early in the season to manufacture runs, but in their four games in Tennessee, LBC scored 34 runs, including 23 on Thursday.
On Thursday alone, sophomore
Nate Long was 6-for-8 and continued his hot start, while
Matt Taliercio was 4-for-8 in the two games with a triple, double and two singles. Junior
Kody Godsey broke out of his early slump by going 4-for-7 on Thursday with a triple and two doubles.
In addition to the bats, the Chargers' pitching staff is slowly turning things around as many of Thursday's runs came via errors.
Micah McClay earned his first win of the season in game on Thursday, pitching six strong innings for the victory.
LBC will return to Lancaster early Friday morning and be off until Monday when they host New England College at 3 p.m. for a single, nine-inning game.
