Chargers Take Two From Patriots

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Lancaster Bible baseball team got back to its winning ways on Friday, taking a doubleheader from NCCAA East Region rival, Valley Forge Christian.

Led by senior Frank DiFilippo's complete game win, the Chargers took game one, 7-5. The LBC bats woke up in game two as LBC hammered the Patriots, 16-2.

DiFilippo threw seven solid innings in game one as he scattered seven hits and just two of the five runs allowed were earned. He struck out seven and didn't walk anyone en route to his first victory of 2013. Nate Long continued his early season hot streak as he went 2-for-3 with three runs scored. DiFilippo also led with his bat as he knocked in two runs with his lone hit of the day.

In game two, LBC fell behind 1-0 after the top of the first, but responded with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. LBC scored again in the second, but the Chargers' exploded for nine runs in the fourth and four more in the fifth as they took control of the game.

The Chargers (4-6) sent 14 batters to the plate in the fourth as Matt Taliercio had two hits and drove in four runs in the inning, highlighted by his monster three-run home run over the right field fence. Taliercio finished the game, 3-for-5 with three runs scored and five runs knocked in. Caleb Mayer, LBC's starting pitcher in game two, went 2-for-5 with two runs batted in.

LBC is right back at it on Saturday when they host Mount Aloysius for a doubleheader that begins at 12 p.m.
