Albright Uses Big Innings to Top Chargers

Box Score The Lancaster Bible baseball team played its first home game of the season on Tuesday and although they scored eight runs and smacked 12 hits, the game's final result may have revealed more questions than answers. Albright scored 16 runs over three innings to turn a 5-2 deficit into an 18-6 lead and went on to eventually beat the Chargers, 18-8.

The day started well for LBC as the first three batters reached base and two runs crossed the plate on RBI hits from Nate Long and Frank DiFilippo. Though Albright tied it in the top of the second, the Chargers answered right back in the bottom half of the inning with three runs highlighted by a double from Matt Taliercio who was 3-for-4 on the day.

After a scoreless third inning, Albright's Tyler Meckley cut the deficit to one at 5-4 on a two-run home run. The Lions grabbed control of the game in the fifth as they loaded the bases with no one out. Max Dundore hit into a fielder's choice to tie the game and the next batter, Dylan Boll doubled to drive home Dundore and Mark Minnig.

Chargers' starter Jake Ritchey intentionally walked Gabe Santone after Boll's double to set up the double play, but Evan High's single scored Boll and chased Ritchey from the game. Freshman Frankie Herr entered the game and had trouble finding the plate as he walked three of the four batters he faced, forcing in two runs. Herr was pulled for DiFilippo with two outs, and DiFilippo got Collin Hecker to fly out to end the inning with Albright ahead, 10-5.

Hecker got his revenge an inning later after Albright had already tacked on four more runs to lead, 14-5. DiFilippo was pulled for Nate Long after he loaded the bases with his third walk of the inning. Hecker was the first batter Long faced and Hecker crushed a home run to left-center field to give the Lions an 18-6 lead.

Hecker led the squad with three hits and four RBI, while four other Albright players had two hits each. Nate Long joined Taliercio as the other Chargers' player with three hits. Caleb Mayer also added two hits for LBC, as the Chargers fell to 0-3.

LBC is scheduled to play Immaculata on Thursday at 3:30 p.m., but with the impending snowstorm coming, it's more likely the Chargers won't play until Monday when they face Tennessee Temple in Chattanooga, Tenn. The Chargers will face Hiwassee on Wednesday and Johnson on Thursday following their doubleheader with Tennessee Temple on Monday.
