Losing Streak Reaches Five

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The trend of one thing going right and one going wrong continued for the Lancaster Bible baseball team on Saturday at Penn St. Harrisburg. In game one, Chargers' starter Jake Ritchey held the high-powered Nittany Lions offense to just two runs on four hits over six innings. LBC's offense however, plated just one run as the Chargers lost 2-1.

In game two, LBC pitched and hit fairly well, but three errors in the field led to five Nittany Lions' runs as Penn St. Harrisburg earned an 8-3 victory.

Ritchey, starting just his second game this season, pitched well in the opener as he scattered four hits over six innings. He walked two and struck out two and both runs scored against him were unearned.

"Jake pitched great today," Chargers' Assistant Coach Mike Freeman said. "He located his pitches well, we just couldn't get him any runs."

Matt Taliercio and Frank DiFilippo each had two hits in game two, while Nate Long and Kody Godsey had one hit.

In game two, the Nittany Lions (17-9, 6-0 NEAC) scored in every inning, but the sixth en route to a five-run victory. Caleb Mayer started on the hill for LBC and went three innings, giving up four runs (three earned) and eight hits. Long and Godsey each had two hits and Godsey's single in the top of the fifth scored two to make it 5-3, but the Chargers would not get closer.

LBC (5-16, 1-7 NEAC) is back in action on Tuesday when they host Cairn at 1 p.m. Both teams are 2-0 in NCCAA East Region play and should either team win both games, they will host the NCCAA East Region playoffs which are scheduled for April 23. A split will require a tie-breaking scenario as both teams swept Valley Forge Christian earlier this season.
