Box Score 2 Coming off their first doubleheader sweep of Cairn on Tuesday, the Lancaster Bible baseball team looked to stay alive in the North Eastern Athletic Conference playoff race with two wins against Cazenovia. The Wildcats pitching and defense made sure that didn't happen as they swept the Chargers and eliminated LBC from NEAC playoff contention.
Cazenovia took game one, 8-2 as they held LBC to just four hits. The Chargers scored in the top of the first inning and held a 1-0 lead until the third when the Wildcats scored four times to take control of the game.
Frank DiFilippo had two of the four LBC hits, while
Micah McClay and
Peter Shue had the other two hits. Shue's hit was his first home run of the season as he homered in the top of the seventh.
Chargers' pitcher
Jake Ritchey pitched fairly well over five innings as he allowed seven runs, five earned, on five hits, while walking two and striking out one.
Nate Horn came in to relieve Ritchey in the sixth and allowed a run and two hits.
In game two, the Chargers once again took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first as McClay scored on an error by the Wildcats' shortstop, Zach Levanduski. Cazenovia answered in the bottom half of the inning as Levanduski redeemed himself by hitting a two-run home run off of LBC starter,
Frank DiFilippo.
Tim Landis, Jr. cut the LBC deficit to 3-2 in the third with an RBI single that scored
Nate Long, but the Chargers would not get closer as the Wildcats added an insurance run in the bottom of the third.
Richard Westerlund came on in relief of DiFilippo in the third and pitched the rest of the way, allowing two hits in 3 2/3 innings pitched.
The losses drop the Chargers to 7-18 overall and 1-9 in NEAC play. LBC will look to rebound on Saturday when they take on Keuka for a doubleheader that begins at 12 p.m. in Keuka Park, N.Y.
