Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 The Lancaster Bible baseball team ended North Eastern Athletic Conference play on a sour note on Saturday as they dropped both games of a doubleheader to SUNYIT, falling 4-2 in game one and 11-8 in game two.
The Chargers took a brief lead in game one, 2-1 in the bottom of the third, but the Wildcats answered in the top half of the fourth inning and took the lead for good in the sixth inning as they capitalized on an LBC error and passed ball to score two runs.
Chargers' junior
Micah McClay was the hard luck loser in game one as he went the distance, scattering 10 hits and allowing just two earned runs, while striking out two.
Caleb Mayer led LBC with two hits.
In game two, the Chargers trailed 7-2 after three innings, but
Matt Taliercio crushed a grand slam in the bottom of the fourth to get LBC back into the game and make it 7-6. The homer was Taliercio's 10th of the season and he finished the regular season as the leader in the NEAC with his 10 blasts.
The Wildcats once again had the answer as they upped their lead to 10-6 with three more runs in the top of the fifth. After SUNYIT scored another run in the seventh, LBC made it interesting in the bottom half of the inning as they plated two runs, but could not get closer and ended conference play with a 1-13 record.
The Chargers (7-22, 1-13 NEAC) travel to Gettysburg on Tuesday to take on the Bullets at 3:30 p.m. and will host Cairn on Saturday in the NCCAA East Region Final at 1 p.m. The winner of Saturday's game will be the East Region representative at the NCCAA World Series in Mason, Ohio in mid-May.
