Chargers Throttle Patriots

Box Score The Lancaster Bible women's basketball team will play four times this week and if Monday is any indication, it's going to be a nice couple of days for the Chargers.

Lancaster Bible dominated Valley Forge Christian from opening tip to final buzzer as the Chargers won, 71-21 in Phoenixville, Pa. and held the Patriots to just six first-half points, the lowest total allowed since November 29, 2007 when the Chargers allowed two points to Valley Forge Military Academy.

Along those same lines, the 21 points are the fewest allowed by the Chargers since that same game on November 29, 2007 when Lancaster Bible won, 71-5. Lancaster Bible junior Shanice Smith had 19 points and 19 rebounds to lead the Chargers, while sophomore Aubrey Folger had 15 points and 16 rebounds. Smith had a double-double at halftime with 13 points and 14 boards as she recorded her sixth straight double-double and eighth of the season.

For the game, the Chargers (8-5, 5-0 NEAC) shot 40.3% (29-of-72), while the Patriots (1-12) shot just 20% (9-of-45). In addition to the scoring margin, the Chargers also held a huge rebounding edge as they pulled down 63 rebounds compared to the Patriots' 17 boards. Thirty-two of Lancaster Bible's 63 rebounds were on the offensive glass as the Chargers had 27 second-chance points.

Sophomore Christy Lorah continued to play well as she had a career-high 14 points, while senior Emily Martz added five points and 10 rebounds.

"Shanice was dominant and Christy had another quality game," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Doug Helsel said. "It was sort of an ugly game, but we were solid defensively. We are still working to improve."

The Chargers will play their second of four games this week on Wednesday when they host Penn St. Berks at 8 p.m. Lancaster Bible defeated the Nittany Lions, 71-45 on January 11 in Reading, Pa.

Notes:
-Smith's 19 rebounds are a career-high and are the third most rebounds by an LBC player in a single game. Smith entered the game ranked eighth in the country in NCAA Division III in rebounds per game at 13.5.

-Folger's double-double was also her ninth of the season.

-The Chargers have now won three straight against the Patriots and two straight at The Pit in Phoenixville.
