For the fourth time this season and second time in less than a week, the Lancaster Bible women's volleyball came back from a 2-1 deficit and won in five sets. Thursday's victim was Hood as the Blazers won sets two and three to take a 2-1 lead before the Chargers roared back to win the fourth and fifth sets. Lancaster Bible won the match, 29-27, 23-25, 19-25, 25-17, 15-5.Â
The Chargers (17-12) won a long first set, 29-27 as they smashed home 19 kills on 58 attempts. The Blazers responded by winning a tight second set, 25-23 and then made it 2-1 with a 25-19 set three victory. After having 19 kills in the first set, the Chargers managed just 17 in the next two sets.Â
Lancaster Bible finally found its way in the fourth set as they won, 25-17 and had 13 kills on 37 attempts. The Chargers continued the momentum into the fifth and final set as they jumped out to a large lead due in part to their 10 kills on 18 attempts.Â
Senior
Katie Coomber led the Chargers with 17 kills and 14 digs. Her ninth dig of the night was the 1,000th of her career. Juniors
Hannah Derr and
Grace Scheuerman also eclipsed the 1,000-dig mark earlier this season. Junior
Joanna Butala had one of the better matches of her career as well on Thursday as she had 16 kills and 24 assists to go along with two service aces.
Derr was at her best as well with five kills, 24 digs and 45 assists to go with two blocks. Freshman
Myranda Kemrer joined the statistical party as well with 12 kills, 21 digs and two service aces, and Scheuerman chipped in with two kills, 17 digs and two aces. Senior
Amanda Maltzahn had five kills and five digs as well for the Chargers won their fourth straight match.Â
Thursday was the 17th win of the season for the Chargers which ties the program-record for most wins in a single season. The 2010 and 2012 squads also finished with 17 victories.Â
The Chargers will shoot for number 18 and an NCCAA East Region title on Saturday as they will play the winner of the Valley Forge / Cairn semifinal match in the NCCAA East Region Final at 1 p.m. The match between the Patriots and Highlanders will be played at Horst Athletic Center at 11 a.m.
Notes:-Lancaster Bible hosted the NCCAA East Region Final in 2010 and 2012 as well. The Chargers defeated Cairn in 2010, 3-0 to win their first East Region Championship in over 20 years, while the Highlanders exacted their revenge two seasons later with a 3-1 win at Horst Athletic Center.
