The Lancaster Bible women's volleyball team completed a perfect a perfect North Eastern Athletic Conference Weekend at Penn St. Abington on Friday and Saturday. The four victories improve the Chargers to 11-8 overall and 6-2 in NEAC play. The scores and a quick recap from each match are below.
Lancaster Bible 3, Penn College 217-25, 25-15, 20-25, 25-12, 15-6
Senior
Katie Coomber had a team-high 13 kills as the Chargers erased a 2-1 deficit to win in five sets, 3-2. Coomber also added 18 digs, while junior
Joanna Butala tacked on nine kills, six aces and 23 digs. Fellow junior
Grace Scheuerman had 30 or more digs for the second straight match as she totaled 31 over the five sets. Lancaster Bible had 117 digs as a team and 15 aces.
Lancaster Bible 3, Bryn Athyn 025-14, 25-19, 25-11
After a five-set battle with the Wildcats, the Chargers cruised past Bryn Athyn in three sets.
Myranda Kemrer and
Emily Olson each had seven kills to lead the Chargers, while Coomber added six kills and 20 digs. Butala tied a career high with eight service aces as she helped Lancaster Bible to 15 more aces in the nightcap. The last time Butala had eight aces, the Chargers dropped a five-set match to Ohio Christian on September 15, 2012.
Lancaster Bible 3, Penn St. Abington 025-21, 25-15, 25-22
Coomber led everyone with 15 kills as the Nittany Lions had just 25 as a team. Junior
Hannah Derr added five kills, seven digs and 25 assists, while
Amanda Maltzahn had two kills and two blocks. Scheuerman had a team-high 14 digs as the Chargers improved to 5-0 all-time against Penn St. Abington.
Lancaster Bible 3, St. Elizabeth 025-10, 25-8, 25-21
Lancaster Bible completed its perfect weekend with an easy victory over St. Elizabeth. The Chargers had 32 kills as a team against just 10 errors as four players had five or more kills. The team tied a season-high with 19 aces as Coomber led the way with 10. Her 10 aces are the second most in program history for a single match. The record of 12 is held by Brittney Becker who accomplished the feat on October 19, 2010 against Washington Adventist. Lancaster Bible is now 4-0 all-time against St. Elizabeth and holds a 12-1 edge in sets won in the series.
The Chargers return to the court on Wednesday when they face Cairn and Valley Forge Christian in Langhorne, Pa. Should Lancaster Bible win both matches, they will host the NCCAA East Region Playoffs on Saturday, October 25 and have a bye into the NCCAA East Region Final. Lancaster Bible's matches on Wednesday are scheduled for 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
