NCCAA Women's Soccer East Region Semifinal Preview

After losing to SUNY Polytechnic in the North Eastern Athletic Conference Quarterfinals, 2-1, the Lancaster Bible women's soccer team will begin its second quest to earn a spot in a national tournament as the NCCAA Division I East Region Playoffs begin this Saturday. The Chargers will host Roberts Wesleyan at Charger Field on Saturday at 1:15 p.m. as Lancaster Bible will be appearing in the Division I Playoffs for the first time in program history as the men's and women's soccer teams made the jump to Division I prior to this season.

Saturday's winner will face Houghton on November 22 in Houghton, N.Y. with the winner of that game earning a spot in the NCCAA Division I National Tournament field. The NCCAA National Tournament will be held from December 1-6 in Kissimmee, Florida.

In addition to being a NCCAA Division I member, Roberts Wesleyan is also a NCAA Division II member. They are members of the East Coast Conference, but played non-conference games against Edinboro, Gannon and Lock Haven earlier this season. Those aforementioned schools are in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference with local member Millersville.

Roberts Wesleyan finished the regular season with a record of 9-9 and 3-6 in ECC play. The Redhawks won two of their final three regular season games, including the regular season finale over New York Institute of Technology, 4-0. Bella Mitrevski leads Roberts Wesleyan with 15 goals and 34 points this season. Mitrevski played in just 12 games during the regular season, but scored in 10 of those 12 games, including a hat trick on September 6 against Nyack. Only one other player has more than five goals, Ellie Swan, who has six goals and two assists this season.

As a team, the Redhawks have scored 33 goals this season and allowed 30. Goalkeeper Marissa Sell appeared and started in every game and has made 96 saves this season.

Since losing to SUNY Polytechnic on November 1, the Chargers have held practice most days, but have also spent the time simply getting healthy. Abby Groff, Alyssa Wesner and Beth Stein all missed the game against the Wildcats on November 1 and while not all of them may be healthy enough to go this weekend, the general health of all of the Chargers has improved greatly over the past two weeks.

Lancaster Bible has scored 68 goals this season and allowed just 22. Freshman Emily Beltran leads the Chargers with 14 goals and 34 points, while senior Monica Lambertson, the program's all-time leading scorer, has 11 goals and six assists for 28 points this year. Junior goalkeeper Kaitlyn Scheuing has made 77 saves this season and had a 1.14 goals against average.
