Chargers Play Better, but Still Fall to Mount Saint Mary, 5-0

Box Score Lancaster Bible fell to 0-3 on Monday night as they lost to Mount Saint Mary (N.Y.), 5-0 in Myrtle Beach, S.C., spoiling a great pitching effort by sophomore Nate Burns.

Burns pitched 6 1/3 innings as he limited the Knights to just six hits in the first six innings before running into trouble in the bottom half of the seventh inning. Rocco Pepe led off the inning with a single for Mount Saint Mary and Chris Chieffo followed with a walk. A sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third and James Nakashian was intentionally walked to load the bases and set up the double play.

The double play never materialized as Vinnie Carminati hit a bases-clearing triple to extend the Knights' lead to 4-0 and send Burns to the bench as he was replaced by Wade Zweizig. The Knights added another run on an RBI groundout and the Chargers could not answer with runs in the eighth or ninth inning.

After only managing three hits in a 20-2 loss on Sunday night, the Chargers mustered just six on Monday as Justin Taylor, Nate Long, Matt Taliercio, Kody Godsey, Micah McClay and Ryan Hartline each singled for Lancaster Bible.

Brandon Lubrano pitched a complete game shutout for Mount Saint Mary as he struck out six and walked no one.

The Chargers return to action on Tuesday night when they face Emory & Henry at 7 p.m.
