Emory & Henry's Late Innings Explosion Keeps Lancaster Bible Winless

Box Score Just four games into the season and the Lancaster Bible baseball team has already found four ways to lose a game. From one-run nail-biters, to blowouts to being shutout, the Chargers have seen a range of emotions thus far in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Tuesday night's new way was to take a 5-1 lead in the third inning and 7-4 advantage into the sixth, before watching it all disappear as Emory & Henry exploded for 20 runs in the final four innings to win 24-9 over Lancaster Bible.

The loss drops the Chargers to 0-4 this season with one game remaining in Myrtle Beach. Things looked great on Tuesday night as starting pitcher Wade Zweizig well in his first five innings as he scattered nine hits and allowed four runs, while striking out two. The Lancaster Bible offense woke up as well as they scored five times in the third inning.

Senior Micah McClay led off the inning by reaching on an error, followed by a walk from Ryan Hartline. Leadoff hitter Brian Niedergall walked as well and another error led to two runs scoring. With two runners on, senior Matt Taliercio hit a double and plated two more runs. Taliercio scored before the inning was over and Lancaster Bible led, 5-1.

The Wasps (6-7) got two runs back in the fourth and another in the top half of the fifth, but the Chargers scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning to restore their three-run lead, 7-4. The lead would not last long however as Zweizig got into trouble in the sixth and the bullpen didn't fare any better. Emory & Henry scored five times in the sixth to take a 9-7 lead and five more times in the seventh to increase it to 14-7.

Lancaster Bible scored twice in the seventh after Erich Carroll hit a triple and was driven in by Kody Godsey's double. Godsey then scored on a single by Caleb Mayer and the Chargers trailed by just five. Any comeback idea was put to rest in the top of the eighth when the Wasps scored seven runs to take a 21-9 lead.

Reliever Mitch Kumher, who replaced Zweizig in the sixth, took the loss. Taliercio and Mayer finished with two hits each and Taliercio also scored twice and drove in two runs. Godsey finished with two RBIs as well.

The Chargers will look to crack the win column on Wednesday morning in their final game in Myrtle Beach. Lancaster Bible will face Penn St. Schuylkill at 10 a.m.
