Chargers Swept by Gallaudet

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 For the first time in almost two weeks, the Lancaster Bible softball team suffered a doubleheader sweep as they dropped two games to Gallaudet on Friday in Washington, D.C. The Bison came from behind in game one to win 3-2 and they took game two 8-0 in five innings.

Game one was going the Chargers' way for 6 1/2 innings as they took a 2-0 lead into the bottom half of the seventh inning. Gallaudet had managed just three hits in the first six innings, but Emily Forsberg led off the seventh with a double and the next batter Victoria Rainey was hit by a pitch to put runners on first and second with nobody out. Kimberly Klock singled to score Montana Murphy who pinch ran for Forsberg and the Bison now had the tying and winning runs on base.

A dropped fly ball loaded the bases for Elena Ciccarelli who hit into a fielder's choice at second base. Klock scored, but a throw home was high and Rainey came around to score as well and Gallaudet had capped the comeback and shocked the Chargers. Anna Harris and Kelsey Collins were each 2-for-4 in game one, while Ali Morton was 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Game two was scoreless into the fourth when the Bison scored six times to take a 6-0 lead and effectively end the day for Lancaster Bible. Two more runs in the fifth clinched the game for Gallaudet and sent the Chargers to their third straight loss. The Chargers managed just three hits in game two as Morton, Nicole Valinteno and Kellie Wright each had a hit.

The losses drop the Chargers to 5-15 overall and 4-6 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play. Lancaster Bible will get right back at it on Saturday, as they host Wilson for a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. The games will be played at Garrett Field in Willow Street, Pa.
