Box Score 2 The Lancaster Bible softball team did something that had not been done all season long on Monday as the Chargers dealt Penn St. Abington a conference loss, spoiling the Nittany Lions' drive for perfection in North Eastern Athletic Conference play. The Chargers took game one of the doubleheader, 11-8, before dropping game two, 7-4 in Abington, Pa.
Lancaster Bible scored a combined eight runs over the fourth and fifth innings of game one as they turned a 3-2 lead into an 11-3 lead in just two innings.
Ali Morton and
Anna Harris each had three hits to pace the Chargers in game one, while
Marissa Hardy picked up her first collegiate win. Hardy allowed just two hits in four innings as she kept the Nittany Lions off balance before
Kelsey Collins came in during the fifth inning and helped secure the three-run victory.
Collins scored four runs in game one, while
Nicole Valinteno knocked in four runs of her own.
Kellie Wright was 2-for-4 with two runs, while fellow senior
Ally Brown scored a run and knocked in a run as well.
The Chargers erased a 3-0 deficit in game two as
Kathryn Ritter and
Richelle Kane led the Lancaster Bible comeback in the top of the fourth. The Nittany Lions responded with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the fourth and tacked on two more in the fifth to earn the victory. Ritter, Kane and Brown each had two hits for the Chargers, while Ritter also scored twice as well.
Lancaster Bible will look to take down another undefeated team on Wednesday as the Chargers host Penn St. Berks at 3 p.m. at Garrett Field in Willow Street, Pa. Berks is currently 10-0 in NEAC play this season and defeated the Chargers, 4-2 and 26-0 earlier this season in Reading, Pa.
