Big Eighth Inning Propels SUNYIT Past Chargers

Box Score The Lancaster Bible baseball team lost its sixth straight game on Friday as the Chargers dropped an 8-3 decision to SUNYIT in Utica, N.Y.

Trailing 3-0 entering the eighth inning, the Chargers rallied to tie the game at 3-3 as senior Matt Taliercio doubled and advanced to third on an error. Freshman Justin Taylor scored on the double and thanks to the error, senior Micah McClay also scored. Two batters later, Taliercio scored as Nate Long hit into a double play.

Chargers starter Wade Zweizig pitched well for seven innings, but ran into trouble in the bottom half of the eighth inning as he hit the first batter he faced. A stolen base and a wild pitch later and SUNYIT's Jim Sass was on third with no one out. Ryan Dungey hit the next pitch for a single that scored Sass and the Wildcats had reclaimed the lead.

Zweizig's day ended after that, but the Wildcats scored four more times in the inning off of the two Lancaster Bible relievers, Jimmy Eagan and Gabe Yoder, who entered after Zweizig.

Taliercio and Long each finished the day 2-for-4, while Taylor had the other Lancaster Bible hit. The Chargers have just 11 hits over their past two games and have only scored three runs. Friday's loss drops Lancaster Bible to 7-15 this season and 2-9 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play.

These same two teams will meet for a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
