The Lancaster Bible baseball team took a break from its regular season schedule on Tuesday to take part in an exhibition game against the Atlantic League's Lancaster Barnstormers. The Barnstormers' regular season begins on Thursday against the Sugar Land Skeeters (Texas) and they wrapped up their spring training with an exhibition game against the Chargers. The Barnstormers are celebrating their 10th year in the Atlantic League and they welcomed the Chargers to Clipper Magazine Stadium in downtown Lancaster for the first time.
Prior to the game, the Chargers honored their five seniors,
Nate Horn,
Matt Taliercio,
Josiah Weaver,
Micah McClay and
Kody Godsey. The team took batting practice on the field prior to the game and enjoyed the day, despite the 40-minute rain delay during the top of the second. Several Lancaster Bible players recorded hits, including Godsey who had two hits, as well as
Caleb Mayer who added two hits of his own. Sophomore
Doug Condran also added a hit, while
Nate Long,
Gabe Yoder,
Ethan Derliunas and Horn each pitched an inning on the mound.
The Chargers (8-16, 3-10 NEAC) return to North Eastern Athletic Conference play on Wednesday when they host Penn St. Berks at 1 p.m. for a doubleheader. The Nittany Lions took game one two weeks ago in Lancaster, 14-5.
