Box Score 2 The Lancaster Bible softball team swept a doubleheader from Trinity (D.C.) on Monday in the Nation's Capital as the Chargers earned back-to-back shutouts on the arm of freshman
Kelsey Collins. The Chargers took game one, 7-0 and won game two, 8-0 in five innings.
Collins was strong in both games as she allowed just two hits in each game. Over the two games, Collins struck out 19 batters. Thirteen of those 19 strikeouts came in game one as the Chargers won behind Collins and
Ali Morton's bat. Morton homered for the second straight game as she hit a three-run home run in the top half of the second inning that gave the Chargers a 5-0 lead.
Anna Harris also had three runs batted in during game one, while
Kathryn Ritter added two hits.
The Tigers came into the doubleheader as the conference leader in stolen bases, but the Chargers' game plan of pitching out helped them allow just one stolen base, while Ritter gunned down Ikea Johnson twice at second base during game one. Ritter caught two more runners in game two as the Tigers finished the day 1-for-5 in the stolen base department.
Harris was at it again in game two as she had two hits, two runs and two RBI. Senior
Nicole Valinteno had the same stat line as Harris as she continued her hot hitting. Fellow senior
Kellie Wright also had a hit and RBI in game two, while Ritter added a hit and RBI.
The Chargers are now 9-19 overall and return to action on Wednesday when they host Valley Forge Christian at Garrett Field in Willow Street, Pa. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
Notes:-Collins' 19 strikeouts stretched her NEAC lead in strikeouts even more as she has 116 this season. The next closer pitcher has 84 strikeouts this season. Collins is also second in the NEAC in wins with eight.
