Lancaster Bible Earns Comeback Victory over Gallaudet

Box Score Heart medication was needed on Saturday evening at Charger Field as Lancaster Bible saw its 4-0 lead evaporate over two innings before they stormed back with six runs in the bottom half of the eighth inning to earn a 10-7 victory over Gallaudet.

Lancaster Bible built its 4-0 lead thanks to a two-run home run from senior Matt Taliercio in the first inning and then RBI singles in the fifth and sixth inning from Erich Carroll and Micah McClay. And then it all fell apart.

Gallaudet scored five times in the seventh inning to take a 5-4 lead and Casey Hicks' fifth home run of the season in the top half of the eighth inning made it 7-4 Bison. Lancaster Bible's Justin Taylor reached on an error in the eighth and McClay followed with a single. Taliercio strolled to plate and smacked a 1-1 pitch over the right-centerfield wall for his sixth home run of the season and second of the day to tie the game at 7-7.

After a Bison pitching change, Nate Long popped up to the catcher for the second out, but Godsey reached on another error and Carroll walked. Junior Caleb Mayer doubled to left-center which scored Carroll and gave Lancaster Bible the lead at 8-7. Ryan Hartline followed with a bloop single to centerfield as he drove in Carroll and Mayer to make it 10-7. After coming in during the eighth inning, Gabe Yoder got around a walk in the ninth to earn his first collegiate victory.

Lancaster Bible starter Nate Burns pitched a solid 6+ innings as scattered six hits and struck out four.

Taliercio finished the day 3-for-5 with five RBI and two runs scored. Taylor was 2-for-5 with two runs scored, while McClay continued his hot hitting with a 2-for-4 day and two runs scored. Mayer also had three hits en route to a 3-for-5 day, while Carroll also had two hits. Kody Godsey, Bisch and Long each added a hit as well for the Chargers who improved to 7-9 overall and 2-3 in NEAC play.

These two teams will meet for a doubleheader on Sunday at Charger Field, with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
