Box Score 2 After defeating Gallaudet in a come from behind victory on Saturday, the Lancaster Bible baseball team failed to build on its momentum and dropped a pair to the Bison on Sunday at Charger Field. The Bison defeated the Chargers, 11-1 in game one and took game two, 10-9 in 10 innings.
Gallaudet's ace Brandon Holsworth shutdown the Chargers for seven innings as he allowed just three hits and struck out six. One of the three hits Holsworth gave up was a home run to Lancaster Bible's
Nate Long, his fourth of the season. Freshman
Justin Taylor and senior
Kody Godsey had the other two hits for the Chargers.
In game two, the Chargers raced out to a 7-2 lead through three innings as senior
Matt Taliercio hit his seventh home run of the season in the bottom of the third.
Ryan Hartline singled home two runs later in the inning as well and Taylor capped the inning with an RBI double to give the Chargers a five-run lead.
The dangerous Gallaudet lineup would not stay dormant as they hit two 3-run home runs in the top of the fifth to take an 8-7 lead. Lancaster Bible tied the game in the bottom half of the inning when
Caleb Mayer scored on an error. The Bison retook the lead in the top of the seventh on Casey Hicks' seventh home run of the year, but once again, the Chargers battled back and manufactured a run in the bottom of the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Taylor.
The game remained tied at 9-9 through the eighth and ninth innings, but the Bison capitalized on a Lancaster Bible mistake in the 10th and took a 10-9 lead. The Chargers put two runners on in the bottom half of the inning, but could not tie the game again and fell to 7-11 overall and 2-5 in NEAC play.
Taylor, Godsey and Hartline each finished with three hits, while Taylor, Hartline and Taliercio had two RBIs apiece.
Junior
Jake Ritchey, appearing in his first games of the season, pitched 5 1/3 innings of solid ball in game two as he kept the Chargers in the game. Ritchey allowed five hits and two runs, while striking out two.
Lancaster Bible is scheduled to play a doubleheader on Monday against Valley Forge Christian at Charger Field at 2 p.m., but Mother Nature may have other ideas as rain is expected throughout the day.
