Sloppy Play Dooms Chargers

Box Score The Lancaster Bible baseball team lost its third straight game on Wednesday as the Chargers fell to North Eastern Athletic Conference neighbor Penn St. Berks, 14-5 at Charger Field. The Nittany Lions (8-10, 4-0 NEAC) took advantage of five Lancaster Bible errors and cruised to the nine-run victory.

Lancaster Bible starter Wade Zweizig got the Nittany Lions to go down in order in the first and second innings, but the Nittany Lions solved the puzzle in the third and scored twice. Penn St. Berks would score in every inning from the third to ninth, except the eighth and poured it on late as they scored four times in the ninth.

Errors in the field, a few bloop hits for the Nittany Lions and some interesting base running decisions hurt the Chargers as they fell to 7-12 overall and 2-6 in NEAC play. Freshman Justin Taylor and junior Peter Shue led the Chargers with two hits each. One of Taylor's two hits was his second home run of the season which he hit in the bottom of the ninth.

Zweizig ended up throwing four innings as he gave up eight hits and three earned runs.

Lancaster Bible has a week off before its next game as they don't play until Wednesday, April 16 at Penn St. Abington. The Chargers lost to Penn St. Abington, 7-6 last Wednesday. First pitch of the doubleheader next Wednesday is scheduled for 1 p.m.
