Chargers Keep Offense Going, Sweep Wildcats

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Lancaster Bible baseball team won its sixth and seventh games in a row on Saturday as they swept Cazenovia to wrap-up the regular season. The Chargers pounded 16 more hits in game one to win 15-5 and then took game two, 7-3. Lancaster Bible is now 15-17 this season and finishes North Eastern Athletic Conference play with a record of 7-11. The seven NEAC wins are a new program record and the 15 wins are the most since the 2010 team won 17, which is the program record.

Senior Matt Taliercio broke the school record for hits in a season in game one as he recorded his 52nd hit of the season which breaks the old record of 51 set by current Lancaster Bible Head Coach T.J. Horn in 2007. Freshman Justin Taylor went 5-for-5 in game one as well and now has 50 hits this season. He joins Horn, Taliercio and Paul Greco as the only Lancaster Bible players to record 50 hits in a single season.

After smashing 21 hits in Friday's nine-inning game, the Chargers connected for 16 more in game one of Saturday's doubleheader. In addition to Taylor's five hits, junior Nate Long was 4-for-5, while Kody Godsey, Jimmy Eagan and Taliercio had two hits apiece. Godsey also scored three runs and drove in three runs, while Taylor scored four times. In addition to all of Taylor's success in game one, he hit for they cycle as well and is now hitting .407 this season. Senior Micah McClay pitched a complete game for his fifth win of the season. He scattered 10 hits and allowed five runs, while striking out four as he is now 5-2 this season.

Taliercio was 4-for-4 in game two and one of his hits was his 12th home run of the season which sets a new program record. Nate Burns drove in two runs in game two as well, while freshman Chad Williams was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Long scored two more runs in game two, while Mitch Kumher picked up his first win of the season.

The Chargers will now turn their attention to the NCCAA East Region Playoffs which will be played on Thursday, May 8 at Charger Field. Cairn and Lancaster Bible were the only two teams that qualified for the tournament for various reasons and the two teams will play a double elimination tournament, essentially a best-of-three series, on Thursday. Game times are still to be determined, but the winner will represent the NCCAA East Region at the NCCAA National Tournament in Mason, Ohio the following week.
