The Lancaster Bible women's volleyball team won its third straight match and got back to the .500 mark for the first time all season as the Chargers swept Penn St. Abington, 3-0 in Abington, Pa. on Friday night. Lancaster Bible won, 25-18, 25-19, 25-20 and is now 8-8 overall and 4-3 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play.Â
How it Happened: The first set was a set of scoring runs as the Chargers jumped out to a 6-2 lead only to see it completely evaporate as Penn St. Abington tied the match with four straight points...A few points later, the Chargers led 11-9, but rattled off five straight points to take hold of the set at 16-9...Two of the five points came via the kill from
Alyssa Bowen and the Chargers closed out the set on a kill from
Hannah Gipe to take the set, 25-18.Â
The second set went back-and-forth affair as the teams traded points until the Nittany Lions took a 17-16 lead thanks to a kill from Sam Amaro...A kill from
Emily Olson and two straight service aces from
Grace Scheuerman gave Lancaster Bible a 19-17 lead and after Penn St. Abington cut the Chargers' lead to 19-18, Lancaster Bible won four straight points to take a 23-18 lead...After an attack error from Penn St. Abington gave the Chargers a set point,
Lauren Grimm closed it out with an ace to give Lancaster Bible a 2-0 lead.
Lancaster Bible took an early 5-2 lead in the third set, but Penn St. Abington showed some resiliency and won the next seven points to take a 9-5 lead...Lancaster Bible fought on, but after an Olson error gave Penn St. Abington an 18-13 advantage, it appeared the match would be headed to a fourth set...With two more matches to follow on Saturday, the Chargers had little desire to play another set on Friday night and showed their own resolve as they won the next seven points to grab a 20-18 lead...Three of the seven points came via a
Myranda Kemrer kill as the sophomore led the Chargers with 10 kills for the evening...Penn St. Abington closed the gap to 20-19, but Lancaster Bible won five of the final six points with the last three coming off kills from Olson, Grimm and Gipe.
By the Numbers: In addition to Kemrer's 10 kills, Gipe had five, while Grimm and Bowen each had four...
Hannah Derr had 19 assists and 11 digs, while Scheuerman led all players with 21 digs...Derr, Kemrer, Grimm and Scheuerman each had two aces, while Bowen chipped in with two blocks.
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 6-0 all-time against Penn St. Abington...Derr needs just 33 assists to reach 3,000 for her career...Lancaster Bible had just 29 kills on Friday night, which marks the lowest kill total in a win for the for the Chargers this season.
Up Next: Lancaster Bible continues its NEAC Weekend with two matches on Saturday at St. Elizabeth...The Chargers will take on the host Eagles at 9 a.m. and then wait all day to play Bryn Athyn at 7 p.m...With the win on Friday night, Lancaster Bible has a half-game lead on both St. Elizabeth and Bryn Athyn for the sixth and final NEAC playoff spot...Wins against both teams on Saturday would go a long way in possibly securing a playoff spot as it would give the Chargers the tie-breaker over each school.
