There was no shortage of excitement at the final two home regular season matches of the season at Horst Athletic Center as the Lancaster Bible women's volleyball team split a tri-match to finish the season 5-4 at home. In the afternoon opener, the Chargers won the first set against Hood, but dropped the next three to lose, 3-1. In the nightcap, Lancaster Bible lost the first two sets to Wesley, but battled back to win an epic five-set match in front of a raucous Fall Break home crowd, 3-2.
Hood 3, Lancaster Bible 1
18-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-23How it Happened: Lancaster Bible jumped on the Blazers in the first set and won, 25-18, but Hood fought back to tie the match at 1-1 with a 25-21 set two victory. Lancaster Bible tied the third set at 5-5, but Hood took advantage of a few Chargers' errors and the Blazers also picked up their own hitting and won eight of the next 10 points to grab a 13-7 lead. The teams split the next six points as Hood led, 16-10, but the Blazers again went on a scoring run and took control of the third set with five straight points to gain a 21-11 advantage and would eventually win the set, 25-16.
Up 2-1, Hood jumped out to an early 7-1 lead in the fourth set, but it was the Chargers who battled back this time as Lancaster Bible chipped away and eventually tied the match at 22-22. The teams split the next two points and with the set tied at 23-23, Elena Young crushed her 11th and 12th kills of the match to give the Blazers the set and the match, 25-23.
By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible had 52 kills to Hood's 40, but the Chargers were doomed by 26 errors, 13 service errors and seven serve-receive errors.
Alyssa Bowen had a team-high 14 kills, while
Emily Olson added 12.
Myranda Kemrer had nine kills and six digs, while
Hannah Gipe and
Grace Scheuerman each added 12 digs.
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible still leads the all-time series with Hood, 8-3...Hood went on to defeat Wesley, 3-2 in the next match and the Blazers' record now stands at 15-12 this season.

16-25, 23-25, 25-20, 25-17, 15-12How it Happened: Wesley, coming off a five-set loss to Hood in the middle match, channeled its frustration and used it to come firing out of the gates as the Wolverines cruised to a 25-16 first set victory and followed it up with a close 25-23 win in the second set. Despite being down two sets, the Chargers played well early in the third set and took an early 13-6 lead, but the Wolverines fought back and cut the deficit to 17-15 after a Lancaster Bible service error. The Chargers were not going to let the third set slip away however and closed out the set on an
Emily Olson kill and won 25-20 to get the crowd back into the game.
The fourth set was a back-and-forth battle as the Wolverines took a 15-14 advantage midway through the set. Wesley wouldn't score again for several minutes as the Chargers rattled off eight straight points, thanks to four kills, an ace and three Wesley errors, to take a 22-15 lead and send the crowd into a frenzy. Lancaster Bible closed out the set with a kill from Kemrer and the match headed to a fifth and final set.
In the concluding set, Wesley raced out to a 4-1 lead via two kills and two Lancaster Bible errors and would eventually take an 8-4 lead as the teams changed ends. With the Wolverines leading, 9-5, Lancaster Bible took the match over and won the next four points as
Hannah Gipe and
Alyssa Bowen fired off kills to make it 9-7, before back-to-back Wesley errors knotted the score at 9-9. Trailing 10-9, Lancaster Bible won the next three points thanks to three straight kills from
Lauren Grimm,
Hannah Derr and Bowen, to take a 12-10 lead. Wesley cut the deficit to one at 13-12, but a ball-handling error by Wesley led to match point, which was put away by Kemrer as she slammed home her ninth kill of the match and nearly sent the roof off of Horst Athletic Center.
By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible had a season-high 62 kills in the match, while Wesley had 55...The match featured 397 attacks as Lancaster Bible had 212, while Wesley had 185...The Chargers were led by Olson and Bowen who each had 16 kills...Grimm added 10 kills and 16 digs...Senior
Hannah Derr finished her home career in style as she had a program-record 53 assists and tacked on five kills and 12 digs as well...Fellow senior
Grace Scheuerman led the Chargers with 23 digs in her final home match and added a team-high four aces as well...The Chargers had eight aces, while the Wolverines had just one...Tionne Graves-Brown led Wesley with a match-high 21 kills.
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 5-4 all-time against Wesley...Derr's 53 assists break her previous program-mark of 52 assists which she set on November 1, 2014 at Catholic...Lancaster Bible's 62 kills are also a new program-record as it surpasses the record of 60 that was set on October 16, 2012 vs. Goucher...Lancaster Bible finishes the 2015 season with a home record of 5-4 and it is the third time in four seasons the Chargers have finished the season with a winning record at home...The Chargers are 3-3 in five-set matches this season.
