Chargers Take Two From Defenders

The Lancaster Bible baseball team kicked off a crazy three days in which the Chargers will play six times, with two wins on Friday as Lancaster Bible took down Baptist Bible, 11-5 and 14-3 at Charger Field in Lancaster, Pa. The victories improve the Chargers to 8-13 overall, while Baptist Bible falls to 2-16 this season.

Immediately following the game, the Chargers left for Keuka Park, N.Y. as Lancaster Bible will play Keuka on Saturday at 1 p.m. Following Saturday's doubleheader, the Chargers will board the bus again and head back south to take on Penn College on Sunday afternoon in Williamsport, Pa. This weekend's games will go a long way in determining if the Chargers will qualify for the North Eastern Athletic Conference playoffs, as the Chargers will have just four conference games remaining following this weekend. Lancaster Bible currently sits in fifth place in the NEAC standings and the top four teams qualify for the playoffs.

Below is a quick recap of Friday's games.

Lancaster Bible 11, Baptist Bible 5 -- Game 1
The Chargers scored six runs in the first inning and cruised to an 11-5 victory as they smashed 16 hits, including two home runs. The home runs were hit by Nate Long and Justin Taylor as they both went 3-for-4 in game one. Taylor drove in four runs, while Long drove in two more. Jimmy Eagan also went 3-for-4 as he scored a run and knocked in a run as well.

Erich Carroll went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI, while Ryan Hartline was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Senior Caleb Mayer earned his second win of the season as he pitched six strong innings in which he allowed just three hits and struck out three, while giving up no runs.

Lancaster Bible 14, Baptist Bible 3 -- Game 2
While the Lancaster Bible offense was at it again, it was freshman Hunter Gray who stole the show as he took a no-hitter into the seventh inning, only to see it broken up with one out. He finished the day allowing just two hits as he earned his first collegiate victory on the mound. Gray did not allow an earned run and struck out eight as Lancaster Bible improved to 8-13 overall.

At the plate, Long owned game two as he went 4-for-4 with seven RBI and five runs scored. The five runs scored tie a program record that was previously set by Matt Taliercio and Long is now hitting .476 this season with 30 hits and 20 RBI. Two of Long's four hits in game two were home runs as he crushed two dingers over the left field wall.

Braden Elliott, Carroll, Taylor and Eagan each had two hits as Carroll was 2-for-4 again with two RBI and a run scored. Freshman Austin Masser played a strong game behind the plate and went 1-for-4 with two RBI at the plate. Brian Niedergall and JJ Sanchezl also added hits for the Chargers.
