On the second day of a three day stretch of games for the Lancaster Bible baseball team, they were able to earn a split against Keuka on Friday. Keuka took game one, 8-7 and Lancaster Bible took game two, 9-2. The games today move the Chargers' record to 9-14 overall and 3-5 in conference play.
The Chargers will now travel back to PA for a doubleheader against Penn College tomorrow with the first game starting at 12 p.m. These games could go a long way for the Chargers in the North Eastern Athletic Conference post-season standings. Below is a quick recap of both games.
Game 1: Lancaster Bible 7, Keuka 8 (10 innings)The Chargers got off to a hot start scoring the first five runs of the game all in the first inning. The Chargers moved station to station as
Erich Carroll,
Jimmy Eagan, and
Josh Mayer all had RBI's. Each team would be held scoreless until Keuka scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game 5-5. Lancaster Bible would then go on to respond by scoring two runs of their own in top of the eigth, but couldn't hold on to the lead as Keuka scored two in the bottom of the eight to make it 7-7. The game would end up going into extra innings with Keuka's John Rizzo reaching on an error and scoring Brett Fenton. The final score of the game was 8-7.
Justin Taylor lead the Chargers with three hits, while Eagan and Mayer both had two RBI's. Lancaster Bible's Taylor took the lost, while Keuka's Kevin Franz got the win.
Game 2: Lancaster Bible 9, Keuka 2After a tough lose in extra innings the Chargers didn't dwell on it, but took advantage of game two and beat the Wolfpack. The game started nothing like game one, as it was a pitching duel through five innings. Both teams could only get one run each, until the game broke open the last two innings.
The Chargers scored two runs in the top of the sixth, but the Wolfpack responded with one of their own to make the score 3-2 in the Chargers favor. The top of seventh inning was when the Chargers bats got going, as they scored five runs in this inning. In the seventh
Jimmy Eagan,
JJ Sanchez, and
Josh Mayer all had an RBI, while
Caleb Mayer had two RBI's.
Lancaster Bible's freshman pitcher
Braden Elliott kept the Wolfpack's bats quiet all afternoon and only allowed two runs on seven hits to earn his first collegiate victory. Keith Ryan took the lose for the Wolfpack and moves to 0-5.Â
Nate Long, Taylor, Eagan, Sanchez all had two hits for the Chargers and
Caleb Mayer led the team with three RBI's.
