The Lancaster Bible women's volleyball team kicked off a five-match homestand with a 3-0 loss to Haverford on Wednesday night at Horst Athletic Center. The visiting Fords won, 25-8, 25-20, 25-18 as they improved to 7-2 this season. The loss for Chargers is their second straight and drops them to 2-5 this season.
How it Happened: In the first set, the teams traded points before Haverford's Nina Mutty stepped to the service line with the match tied at 3-3 and helped the Fords to 13 straight points. Thanks in part to six team kills and four aces from Mutty, the Fords turned a 3-3 match in a 16-3 advantage. Haverford cruised to an opening set, 25-8 victory as they had an unbelievable .579 hitting percentage in the first set.
Lancaster Bible played better in the second and third sets, but Haverford's ability to turn defense into offense proved to be too much as they won the next two sets, 25-20 and 25-18.Â
By the Numbers: Haverford finished with a .263 hitting percentage, led by Meg O'Day's, .650 hitting percentage...O'Day had 14 kills to just one error on 20 attacks...O'Day now has 110 kills this season...Lancaster Bible sophomore
Myranda Kemrer led the Chargers with eight kills to up her season total to 54...Junior
Jensen Attoe played the second and third sets for the Chargers and finished with 16 assists and 10 digs...
Lauren Grimm added five kills and seven digs to go along with one ace.
The Coach Says: "This was a good, challenging match against a very good opponent to prepare us for the start of conference play," Lancaster Bible Head Coach
Lauren Bewley said. "I think this match will help us become more prepared for the rest of the season and some of the other teams we will face. I think we are starting to understand what it's going to take to win matches and that is very important for us."
Information Hodge Podge: The Chargers are now 0-2 all-time against Haverford...The 10 aces given up by the Chargers is the second most this season...Lancaster Bible's 23 kills snaps a three-match streak of 30+ kills in a match.
