Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Zach Freeman

Chargers Win Five-Set Thriller

The Lancaster Bible women's volleyball team kicked off North Eastern Athletic Conference play in spectacular fashion on Friday evening as the Chargers stormed back from a 2-0 deficit to shock Cazenovia, 3-2 in five sets. The Chargers won, 26-28, 17-25, 25-22, 25-20, 15-6. The win improves Lancaster Bible to 3-5, 1-0 NEAC, while the Wildcats dropped to 3-5, 0-1 NEAC.

How it Happened: After a tight first set which the Wildcats eked out, 28-26, Cazenovia used 15 kills against just two errors to win the second set, 25-17. Lancaster Bible began its comeback in the third set as the Chargers hammered home 13 kills to just two errors in the third set and won four of the last five points of the set to secure the 25-22 win.

Cazenovia held leads of 9-5 and 12-9 in the fourth set, but once again, the Chargers spectacular defense came through and Lancaster Bible fought back to take a 15-14 lead. After the Wildcats tied the set at 15-15, Lancaster Bible rattled off six of the next seven points to grab a 21-16 lead. Cazenovia closed the gap to 23-19, but a kill from Myranda Kemrer gave the Chargers a 25-20 win and sent the very loud Lancaster Bible crowd into a frenzy.

Lancaster Bible put its foot on the gas in the final set as the Chargers raced out to a 12-2 lead, thanks in part to three aces from Kemrer. Alyssa Bowen sealed the match with Lancaster Bible's 57th kill of the night as the Chargers had 57 kills against just 24 errors on 170 attempts, good enough for a .194 hitting percentage.

By the Numbers: Kemrer finished with 22 kills, which ties her career best which she set last Nov. 1 at Catholic...Kemrer's 22 kills came on 44 attempts and she had just three errors...Emily Olson added 12 kills, while Bowen had 10 kills...Hannah Gipe had nine kills and 10 digs, while senior Grace Scheuerman had 20 digs.

Information Hodge Podge: The 57 team kills for Lancaster Bible are tied for third-most in program history...The Chargers last had 57 kill on Sept. 25, 2012 against Cairn...Senior Hannah Derr had 50 assists for the third time in her tremendous career and she finished just two shy of tying her program-record of 52.
