The Lancaster Bible College women's volleyball team played its fourth five-set match in 11 days on Tuesday night and held on to defeat Hood, 3-2 in Frederick, Md. The Chargers improve to 9-14 overall, while the Blazers drop to 7-16. Lancaster Bible won, 22-25, 25-19, 25-17, 18-25, 15-11 and improved to 2-2 this season in five-set matches.
How it Happened: After dropping the opening set, 25-22, the Chargers kept the second set close and then pulled away as they won nine of 11 points midway through the set and eventually won, 25-19. The third set was tight as well with the teams knotted at 11-11, but the Chargers once again used a big scoring run to break away from the Blazers as Lancaster Bible won eight of the next nine points and took a 19-12 advantage.Â
After winning the third set, 25-17, Lancaster Bible could not put the host Blazers away in the fourth set as Hood took an early lead and never relinquished it, winning the fourth set, 25-18.Â
Lancaster Bible led 4-3 in the fifth and final set, but Hood rattled off five straight points to grab an 8-4 advantage. The Chargers were able to get three points back and trailed 8-7, before the Blazers connected on two straight points to build a 10-7 lead. It was all Lancaster Bible from there however as the Chargers rallied for seven straight points and took a 14-10 lead on a kill from
Alyssa Bowen. Bowen sealed the victory two points later when her 14th kill of the night found the floor and gave the Chargers a 15-11 victory in the fifth set.Â
By the Numbers: Hood led in kills, 55-54 and also in digs at 77-72...Lancaster Bible meanwhile had 14 kills, while the Blazers had just six...Bowen had a team-high 14 kills and a match-high eight blocks...Freshman
Ashtyn Bouslog added 13 kills and 17 digs, while junior
Myranda Kemrer had 11 kills...
Hannah Gipe had seven kills, 10 digs and seven blocks...Freshman
Allison Shuey had four kills and 41 assists.
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 9-3 all-time against Hood...Bowen is just seven kills shy of her 226 she posted last season...Lancaster Bible's 54 kills are tied for the most in a single match this season as the Chargers also accomplished the feat on Oct. 3 vs. Lycoming.
