Cardinals Sweep Past Chargers on Senior Night

The Lancaster Bible College women's volleyball team honored its lone senior Emily Olson on Senior Night at Horst Athletic Center on Thursday, but the Chargers came up short on the scoreboard as Catholic defeated Lancaster Bible, 3-0. The loss drops the Chargers to 15-17 this season, while the Cardinals are now 24-10.

How it Happened: Catholic jumped out to leads of 8-1 and 14-3 in the first set and went on to win the opening set, 25-13. Lancaster Bible responded in the second set and opened an early 5-1 lead, but it would not last as Catholic won seven of the next eight points for an 8-6 advantage. After Lancaster Bible cut its deficit to 8-7, Catholic won 11 of the next 12 points to take a 19-8 lead and went on to win the set, 25-9.

Despite an 0-2 deficit, Lancaster Bible hung tough in the third set and took a 17-12 lead after three consecutive points. Catholic called timeout and showed why they have 24 wins this season and rattled off 12 straight points and closed out the match with a 25-18 victory in the third set.

By the Numbers: Catholic had 36 kills, while Lancaster Bible had 22...The Chargers struggled hitting all night long as they had 31 errors...Junior Alyssa Bowen led the Chargers with six kills...Fellow junior Myranda Kemrer had a team-high 16 digs, while Hannah Gipe had 13 digs...Mary Paige Nesfeder had a match-high 11 kills.

The Coach Says: "I liked that we had lots of long rallies and were able to play well defensively for stretches of the match," Lancaster Bible Head Coach Lauren Bewley said. "I'm happy we could honor Emily prior to the match and appreciate all of the work she has put in over the past four years. We will miss her in the middle for sure."

Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 1-6 all-time against Catholic...The Chargers finish the 2016 season with an 8-6 record at home...Lancaster Bible is 181-111 all-time at Horst Athletic Center...With all conference games now complete, Lancaster Bible has learned its NEAC Quarterfinal opponent and the #6 Chargers will face #3 Morrisville State on Friday, November 4 at 5 p.m. at SUNY Polytechnic...The Chargers lost to the Mustangs, 3-2 in the regular season matchup.

Up Next: Lancaster Bible wraps up its regular season on Saturday with a tri-match at Lebanon Valley...The Chargers will face Cabrini at 1 p.m. and the host Dutchmen at 3 p.m.
