Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Zach Freeman

Chargers Earn Comeback Win Over Lycoming

Just two days after dropping a five-set match to Morrisville State, the Lancaster Bible College women's volleyball team made a comeback of their own on Monday night at Horst Athletic Center and defeated Lycoming, 3-2. The Chargers won, 25-22, 24-26, 23-25, 30-28, 15-6. The victory improves the Chargers to 7-11 this season, while Lycoming falls to 11-9.

How it Happened: Lancaster Bible won the opening set, 25-22, and appeared to be on its way to a second set victory as well, as the Chargers led, 23-19. The Warriors cut the deficit to 23-22, but a kill by Hannah Gipe gave the Chargers set point at 24-22. Gipe's kill would be the last point for the Chargers however as Lycoming rattled off four straight points and stunned Lancaster Bible with a 26-24 second-set win that tied the match at 1-1.

Lancaster Bible took another lead in the third set as well and led 13-8 midway through the third frame. The Warriors once again chipped away at their deficit and smashed their way back into the match and tied things up at 19-19 on a service ace. Lancaster Bible battled and took a 22-21 lead on a service error by Lycoming, but the Warriors hung tough and won four of the last five points to take the set, 25-23 and earn a 2-1 advantage in the match.

The fourth set was an epic battle as the two teams went back-and-forth for 58 points. Lancaster Bible ended up saving three match points, including when the Chargers trailed 28-27 and a kill from Gipe knotted the match at 28-28. Another Gipe kill and a Lycoming attack error gave the set to the Chargers and the teams headed to a decisive fifth set.

Like the rest of the match, the teams exchanged points for much of the early parts of the set, with the Chargers finally earning the advantage at 10-8 on a kill from Alyssa Bowen. An ace from Gipe and a kill by Myranda Kemrer gave Lancaster Bible a 12-8 lead and though Lycoming would cut its deficit to 14-12, a final service error by the Warriors sealed their fate and the match for the Chargers at 15-12.
