Game Recap: Women's Volleyball | | Zach Freeman

Up and Down Night for Lancaster Bible

The Lancaster Bible College women's volleyball team played its second five-set match in three days on Wednesday evening and unlike Monday night, the Chargers could not pull out the victory as Lancaster Bible lost to Penn St. Berks, 3-2. The Chargers did rebound however as they came back to defeat Penn College, 3-1 in the nightcap. Lancaster Bible is now 8-12 overall and 4-4 in North Eastern Athletic Conference play.

Penn St. Berks 3, Lancaster Bible 2
25-22, 25-15, 11-25, 16-25, 15-13

How it Happened: The match unfolded like a three-act play as the Nittany Lions took the first two sets with relative ease over the Chargers, but Lancaster Bible stormed back and crushed Penn St. Berks in the third and fourth sets. It came down to one final set and both teams used big scoring runs to stay in the match.

After Lancaster Bible earned the first two points of the final set, Penn St. Berks won the next six to grab a 6-2 lead. The Chargers got right back into the match thanks to four straight Nittany Lion errors, but the visitors rebounded and won the next four points to take a 10-6 lead as Lancaster Bible called timeout. The stop in play worked because Lancaster Bible responded with four straight points of its own and the match was tied 10-10 after a block by senior Emily Olson sent the crowd into a frenzy.

Penn St. Berks won the next two points, but the Chargers once again had the answer and a kill from freshman Ashtyn Bouslog made it 12-12 after a Nittany Lion service error had cut the Chargers' deficit to one on the previous play. The teams exchanged points one more time, but Penn St. Berks would prevail, as a kill from Megan DeAbreu and a service error from Morgan Schwartz wrapped up the match for the Nittany Lions.

By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible had the advantage in kills, 44-38, while Penn St. Berks led in digs, 90-89...The Chargers recorded 11 team blocks, while the Nittany Lions had just two...Lancaster Bible junior Alyssa Bowen led all players with 15 kills and she also had seven blocks...Bouslog and junior Hannah Gipe each had eight kills and 10 digs...Sophomore Hannah Thompson had a match-high 26 digs for the Chargers...Junior Myranda Kemrer had three kills and 16 digs, while fellow junior Natalie Kennedy had 15 digs...Freshman Allison Shuey had 38 assists to go with her four kills, four blocks and six digs.

Lancaster Bible 3, Penn College 1
25-15, 21-25, 25-19, 25-17

How it Happened: Lancaster Bible took all of its frustrations from the opening match out against the Wildcats in the first set as the Chargers led by scores of 13-2, 15-4 and 19-8 before finally winning, 25-15. Penn College did not go away quietly however as the Wildcats took an early lead in the second set and never relinquished it and shocked the Chargers, taking the second frame, 25-21.

Lancaster Bible pulled away late in the third set to take a 2-1 lead and then cruised once again in the fourth set to earn its fourth NEAC victory of the season.

By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible once again led in kills as the Chargers held a 39-34 edge...Penn College had 94 digs, while the Chargers had 71...Bowen once again led all players with 11 kills, while Bouslog had nine kills...Kemrer recorded eight kills and 16 digs, as well as three aces...Gipe chipped in with seven kills and 11 digs, while Thompson had 13 more digs...Jenny Lenko recorded nine digs and had two aces.
