The Lancaster Bible College women's volleyball team continued its tough early season schedule on Saturday as the Chargers took on Shenandoah and Eastern Mennonite in Harrisonburg, Va. Though the Chargers played well at certain points in each match, they ultimately came up short in both as Lancaster Bible lost 3-0 to Shenandoah and 3-1 to Eastern Mennonite.
Shenandoah 3, Lancaster Bible 0
25-18, 25-10, 25-21
How it Happened: Lancaster Bible and Shenandoah played a tight first set for much of the opening frame as the set was tied 10-10 and the Chargers trailed by as little as 16-14, but the Hornets won seven of the next eight points and took the first set, 25-18. It was al Shenandoah in the second set as they cruised to a 25-10 win and then hung on to win the third set, 25-21.
By the Numbers: Hannah Gipe and
Ashtyn Bouslog each had six kills to pace the Chargers, while
Alyssa Bowen had five kills...Bowen also added four blocks and freshman
Allison Shuey had 25 assists and two blocks...
Lauren Grimm paced the Chargers with 12 digs, while
Myranda Kemrer had nine.
The Coach Says: "I thought we had some good fight in us during the match, but got stuck in ruts where Shenandoah got on a scoring run and we couldn't stop them," Lancaster Bible Head Coach
Lauren Bewley said. "We had some good moments, but are still struggling putting it all together. We need to think of where we're sending the ball and play with more purpose instead of just reacting."
Information Hodge Podge: The Chargers are now 2-8 all-time against Shenandoah.
Eastern Mennonite 3, Lancaster Bible 1
25-11, 25-18, 20-25, 25-23
How it Happened: After dropping the first two sets, the Chargers roared back win the third, 25-20. Lancaster Bible opened the set on a 10-3 run and was able to hold off the Royals as the Chargers smashed 10 kills in the set. Lancaster Bible produced 10 more kills in the fourth set, but came up just short as Eastern Mennonite broke a 23-23 tie and earned the final two points to clinch the match.
By the Numbers: Bowen had a team-high 11 kills and added two blocks...Shuey added 31 assists and two blocks...
Emily Olson had seven kills and six blocks, while Bouslog had six kills and a team-best four service aces...Kemrer paced the Chargers with 16 digs.
The Coach Says: "We started out a bit rough, but got stronger as the much progressed," Bewley said. "It wasn't enough to pull out the win, but I'm proud of the team for showing fight."
Information Hodge Podge: The Chargers are now 1-3 all-time against Eastern Mennonite.
Up Next: Lancaster Bible travels to Phoenixville, Pa. on Tuesday for a tri-match with the host Patriots of Valley Forge and Mount Aloysius.
