The Lancaster Bible College women's volleyball team completed day two of the Crosstown Crossover on Saturday at Franklin & Marshall and the Chargers played better than they had on Friday night, but still came up short as they dropped matches to Penn St. Berks (3-1) and Elizabethtown (3-0). The Chargers are now 0-3 this season and will look to earn their first victory of the season next Wednesday at home.
Penn St. Berks 3, Lancaster Bible 1
25-11, 27-25, 22-25, 25-15
How it Happened: The Chargers stumbled out of the gate, getting crushed in the first set, 25-11, but rebounded in the second set and actually held a late lead at 22-19 before the Nittany Lions roared back to take the second set. Lancaster Bible wouldn't be denied in the third set and won 25-22, but Penn St. Berks was able to turn the momentum and won the match with a 25-15 fourth set victory.
By the Numbers: Junior
Alyssa Bowen had a match-high 15 kills for the Chargers, while fellow junior
Lauren Grimm added 10 kills, 13 digs and four aces...Freshman
Ashtyn Bouslog chipped in with seven kills and five digs, while junior
Myranda Kemrer had a team-high 17 digs...Freshman
Allison Shuey had 35 assists and 11 digs to go with her two blocks.
The Coach Says: "We played more aggressively, but struggled on serve receive," Lancaster Bible Head Coach
Lauren Bewley said. "It was a good learning and growing match for us and overall I thought we played much better than Friday night."
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible and Penn St. Berks will square off again on October 5 at 7:30 p.m. at Horst Athletic Center...That match will be a conference match...Lancaster Bible is now 7-13 all-time against Penn St. Berks.
Elizabethtown 3, Lancaster Bible 0

How it Happened: Elizabethtown controlled the match from the get-go and won the first two sets over the Chargers...Lancaster Bible hung with the Blue Jays in the third set and tied the match at 16-16 midway through the third frame, but Elizabethtown put the pedal to the floor and won nine of the final 10 points to sweep Lancaster Bible.Â
By the Numbers: Bouslog led Lancaster Bible with eight kills, while senior
Emily Olson had seven kills...Shuey had 21 more assists and Kemrer added 12 digs and three aces.
The Coach Says: "The players off the bench came in and contributed good energy and kept things at a good pace," Bewley said. "This was a great opening weekend of learning to be a team and seeing what it's going to take to be who we want to be."
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is 0-7 all-time against Elizabethtown...The Chargers are 1-14 all-time in the Crosstown Crossover.
