The Lancaster Bible College women's volleyball team split its first tri-match of the season as the Chargers lost to York (Pa.) in the afternoon, before rallying in the nightcap to down Wilkes, 3-1. The Chargers are now 1-4 this season and seem to be working out the kinks in preparation for North Eastern Athletic Conference play which begins in two weeks.

How it Happened: Lancaster Bible battled York throughout the first set as the Spartans took an early 12-8 lead and eventually increased it to 19-13 before the Chargers rallied. Trailing by six, Lancaster Bible won six of the next seven points to trim the deficit to 20-19. York stayed in front until a kill by
Emily Olson and a Spartan error tied the match at 23-23. Lancaster Bible won the next point as well on a kill from
Erin Harkey, but York turned the momentum after a timeout and used two errors and a kill from Sarah Wukitch to take the first set, 26-24.Â
York continued to flex its muscles in the second and third sets and though Lancaster Bible was in striking distance in each set, the Spartans proved to be too much and swept the match.
By the Numbers: York had 38 kills to Lancaster Bible's 31, while the Spartans also led in digs, 56-50...

Ashtyn Bouslog and Olson each had six kills to lead the Chargers, while
Myranda Kemrer paced the Chargers with 16 digs...Freshman
Allison Shuey had 20 assists and 10 digs for the Chargers.

How it Happened: Lancaster Bible controlled the first two sets as the Chargers slugged 25 kills in the opening two sets. The Charger seemed poised to take the third set as they led 20-16, but Wilkes won six of the next seven points to grab a 22-21 advantage. Lancaster Bible had two set points at 24-23 and 25-24, but couldn't put the match away and back-to-back attack errors from the Chargers gave the set to the Colonels. Lancaster Bible almost gave the fourth set away as well, but was able to hang on and win 25-23 to seal the team's first victory of the season.
By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible had five players with seven or more kills, including Bowen who finished with a team-high 11 and Olson who had 10...Both teams finished with 48 kills, while the Chargers held the edge in digs, 70-58 and in blocks, 7-5...Shuey finished with a career-high 39 assists and five blocks...
Lauren Grimm added a match-high 19 digs, while Kemrer chipped in with 18 more...
Hannah Gipe also had nine kills and 12 digs for the Chargers...Bouslog had nine kills, eight digs and three aces.

Lauren Bewley said. "We played with more gusto tonight and we had energy. We need to continue to work on finishing points, sets and matches. We have to be able to finish our chances when we get them."
Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 3-1 all-time against Wilkes...Of the four matches with the Colonels, two have been four-set affairs, as well as a five-set loss a year ago and a 3-0 Lancaster Bible sweep in 2013...Coach Bewley now has 149 career wins...She is already the program-leader in wins.
