Nittany Lions Paw Past Chargers on Senior Night

The Lancaster Bible College women's volleyball team lost its third straight match on Tuesday night, falling to Penn St. Harrisburg, 3-1 at Horst Athletic Center on Senior Night. The Chargers honored seniors Lauren Grimm and Myranda Kemrer prior to the 25-27, 26-24, 25-21, 25-22. The loss drops the Chargers to 12-16 this season, while the Nittany Lions improved to 10-15.

1st Set Highlights:
-The Chargers won 10 of 12 points midway through the first set to grab a 16-9 lead, as Hannah Gipe's two kills capped the big run
-Lancaster Bible eventually took a 24-16 lead on a Nittany Lion error, but Penn St. Harrisburg stormed back to win eight straight points and tie the set at 24-24
-With the set tied at 25-25, the Chargers took advantage of a Penn St. Harrisburg error and then got another kill from Gipe to take the set, 27-25

2nd Set Highlights:
-The second set went back-and-forth with the Chargers taking a 15-12 lead on an ace from Kemrer
-After a Penn St. Harrisburg timeout, the Nittany Lions won seven straight points to grab a 19-15 advantage
-Trailing 23-20, Lancaster Bible earned three straight points, and then fought off a set point at 24-23, to tie the set on a block from Bekah Roberts and Allison Shuey
-The Nittany Lions got a kill from Casey Stump and then won the set on an error by Lancaster Bible

3rd Set Highlights:
-Another set that went back-and-forth, Penn St. Harrisburg won five of six points late in the set to take a 21-15 lead
-The Chargers battled back and cut their deficit to 23-21 after two straight Nittany Lion errors, but a kill from Victoria Sweatlock and a Lancaster Bible error gave the set to Penn St. Harrisburg

4th Set Highlights:
-Lancaster Bible got behind early in the fourth set, and though the Chargers kept it close, they could never come all the way back
-The Chargers rattled off four straight points late in the set to make it 24-22 in favor of Penn St. Harrisburg, but couldn't complete the comeback and lost, 25-22

By the Numbers: Lancaster Bible had 31 kills, while Penn St. Harrisburg had 47...The Chargers also had 31 errors, while Penn St. Harrisburg had 32...Lancaster Bible had 73 digs, while Penn St. Harrisburg had 70...Kemrer led all players with 19 digs, while Gipe finished with a match-high 12 kills...Roberts had a career-high eight blocks, while Shuey had three kills, 25 assists, eight digs and five blocks...Ashtyn Bouslog had eight kills and 10 digs, while Grimm finished with three digs on Senior Night...Brittany Wolf had a team-high 11 kills for the Nittany Lions.

Information Hodge Podge: Lancaster Bible is now 12-2 all-time against Penn St. Harrisburg...This was the first match between the teams since the 2012 season...Tuesday marked the fourth time in the last five matches the Chargers have had 28 errors or more and the Chargers are 0-4 in those matches...Kemrer has 414 digs this season, the third time in her four seasons she has eclipsed the 400-dig mark...Kemrer is just 86 digs from breaking the program-record for digs in a career.

Up Next: Lancaster Bible returns to the court on Thursday, as the Chargers take on Gallaudet at 7 p.m. in Washington, D.C...The winner of Thursday's match will finish in second place in the NEAC South Division and will host a NEAC Quarterfinal on Tuesday, Oct. 31...Because of how the standings have worked out, Lancaster Bible and Gallaudet will play in that NEAC Quarterfinal, Thursday night's match will determine who hosts.
